About Katherine Hoerth

Katherine Hoerth is a member of the Texas Institute of Letters and the author of five poetry collections: Pandora’s Prairie (Cornerstone Press, 2025) Flare Stacks in Full Bloom (Texas Review Press, 2022), The Lost Chronicles of Slue Foot Sue (Angelina River Press, 2018), Goddess Wears Cowboy Boots (Lamar University Literary Press, 2014), and The Garden Uprooted (Slough Press, 2012). She is the 2023 Summerlee Book Prize, the 2015 recipient of the Helen C. Smith Prize for the best book of poetry in Texas from the Texas Institute of Letters, and the 2021 Poetry of the Plains Prize from North Dakota State University Press. Her 2021 letterpress chapbook, Prairie Madness, won honorable mention for the Eric Hoffer Award. Her work has been published in numerous literary magazines including Summerset Review, Valparaiso Review, and Southwestern American Literature

She serves as the Director of Lamar University Literary Press and is an Associate Professor of English and Modern Languages. She teaches creative writing, poetry, American literature, and editing at the graduate and undergraduate level.

Her proudest role is that of a mother. She has two small children: August (three) and Skye (6 months).
